The month of February will be bittersweet for Netflix subscribers everywhere. We’re set to lose cinematic greats like Bad Santa, Terminator, Big Fish and The Hurt Locker, and we’re certainly sad to see them go. But where there’s rain, there’s a rainbow. While we’re not sure if Terminatorwill actually be back (see what we did there?! HAW HAW HAW!), we’re excited to see some fresh binge material:
Better Call Saul Season 1
The first season of the critically acclaimed Breaking Bad spinoff finally makes its way to Netflix today, just in time to binge watch before the season 2 premiere on Feb. 15. If you missed out on it last year, now’s the perfect time to get on board with one of our favorite shows on television.
Noir fans rejoice, that movie you always watch every time it comes on the SyFy channel makes its triumphant debut on Netflix. Written by Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez, and co-directed by the one and only Quentin Tarantino, this action crime drama, based on Miller’s graphic novel of the same name, follows four mini-stories in a strange, dreary suburban wasteland. Starring the likes of Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, Benicio Del Toro, Jessica Alba, and a bunch of other names you know and love.
Full Metal Jacket
Full Metal Jacket is perhaps the best and most provocative war film ever released. And today, it’ll be available on Netflix. If ever you needed a reminder of the horrors of war, Full Metal Jacketwill gladly serve as that reminder. From bootcamp to the war-gripped jungles in South Vietnam,Full Metal Jacket pulls zero punches, and exemplifies the human struggle when at war.
My Side of the Mountain
A young boy leaves his Toronto home behind and travels to the deep Canadian woodlands in order to reconnect with nature in this 1969 classic, based on the Jean Craighead George novel of the same name. Survival story meets great outdoors, a cameo by a completely badass falcon, and a happy ending—what more do ya want?!
Hannibal Buress: Comedy Camisado
The world is Hannibal Buress’ oyster right now, and it’s about damn time Netflix decided to give him a piece of the pie. Buress’ comedy special, Comedy Camisado, debuts exclusively on Netflix Feb. 5. If you think he’s only famous for calling out Bill Cosby, let Comedy Camisado show you how wrong you are—the man is a king.
Mad Men Season 7, Part 2
If you have a Netflix subscription and somehow still haven’t managed to stumble upon the beauty that is Mad Men, we hate to be the ones to say it, but you’re doing it wrong. The second part of the final season comes to Netflix on Feb. 5th, where you’ll see what truly was the end of an era, both for television and the series’ leading man, Don Draper.
We’ll let the Wikipedia plot description do the talking: “A young girl (Dianna Agron) in Nevada becomes romantically involved with a female drifter (Paz de la Huerta) who introduces her to a life of stripping, drugs, and metaphysical experiences that teach her what happens when real life catches up with dark fantasy.”
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was seen as a cinematic kung fu masterpiece. We’re excited by the trailers for the movie’s 2016 sequel, set to air exclusively on Netflix on Feb. 26. The sequel is based off the final book in Wang Dulu’s Crane-Iron series, Iron Knight, Silver Vase, and explores the legend surrounding the sword owned by Chow Yun Fat, named Green Destiny.
